Members of the Barrier Reef Expedition, a mixed group of teachers from New South Wales, mainly from Sydney and Newcastle. They camped under canvas until 3 weeks after Christmas. This was one of the earliest such expeditions to the Barrier Reef, although there had been a smaller one to Heron Island previously. Information supplied by Mrs. B. K. Harris, second from right in this image. The photographer, Otho Webb of Jandowae, accompanied the expedition and was a well known ornithological photographer. (Description supplied with photograph). A line of women display their swimming outfits on the beach at Lindeman Island, most wearing bathing caps and woollen swimsuits.
