Flood waters seen from the corner of Adelaide and Creek Streets, Brisbane, 1893
contributed by QldPics, taken in 1893
(contact QldPics about this picture)

Street scene during 1893 flood in Brisbane. The view is looking down Creek Street toward the Brisbane River. The Gresham Hotel stands on the corner of Adelaide and Creek Streets with spectators standing on its lower balcony. A group of men, women, and children are gathered in a line at the water's edge while others row boats in the background. Some people are immersed in the water up to their waist or chest. Many in the gathering are wearing hats of various kinds. A saddled horse stands in the right foreground of the photograph.
