Our short history of "The Mine" (2024)
contributed by MikeLowe
(contact MikeLowe about this story)
Through family connections that worked on the Sandon Gold Fields we were aware of GL1 MacRaes/Mount Owen mine and with permission of the property owner of the time we used to access the mine for fossicking and camping. This was in the late 70's and all the infrastructure in the photo's was present. In the early 80's trespassers accessed the site and destroyed the hut, pulled over the stamper and poppet and generally destroyed the heritage. The property owners cleaned up the area and nothing remains today, sadly.
